Down and feathers come from natural resources and are less harmful to the environment than comparable synthetic filling materials, as the manufacturing process produces less CO2. Down and feathers are completely biodegradable.
Downright Down (DRD) is an award for down and feathers where we use an in-house standard to ensure compliance with applicable animal welfare guidelines throughout the supply chain (from farm to process).
With products labelled with DRD, the consumer can be sure that only down and feathers that meet these animal welfare requirements are used in the product.
DRD is based on the following 4 basic principles:

We strongly condemn cruel live plucking and ensure animal welfare relevant requirements towards our suppliers through our supplier qualification. Furthermore, we are committed to the EDFA (European Down & Feather Association) Code of Conduct regarding animal welfare. Sanders-Kauffmann is a member of the EDFA.

Our strict quality requirements are permanently monitored in our in-house laboratories according to nationally and internationally recognised standards. Our requirements towards our suppliers even exceed the legal requirements in some cases (e.g. for detergent residues such as APEO). In this way, we want to bring about an additional reduction in the use of harmful substances.
In order to ensure laboratory quality and testing accuracy in the long term, the employees of our laboratories regularly undergo the external round robin tests of the European Down and Feather Association with great success.
All fillings of animal origin used meet the strict Oeko-Tex Standard 100 requirements and are also tested accordingly by independent laboratories.

To ensure Sanders-Kauffmann’s social responsibility, our company-wide Code of Conduct applies. The Code of Conduct can be viewed at www.sanders-kauffmann.eu/ueber-uns/verhaltenskodex/. We also undergo regular audits by amfori BSCI, the leading international initiative in the field.

We rely on long-standing supplier relationships that are cultivated in a spirit of partnership. We pass on our own requirements to our suppliers through our terms and conditions of purchase as well as our supplier code of conduct. Sanders-Kauffmann only works with suitably qualified suppliers. Suppliers who cannot meet our requirements in terms of animal welfare, fairness, transparency and social responsibility are categorically not considered.
Only down and feathers that are purchased directly from the producer without intermediaries are used for DRD award-winning articles. The filling used and its origin can be determined for each individually produced article. This can be ensured by a short and transparent supply chain, as well as internally by seamless batch traceability.
